People of the World,

In our new flat,
I lie in our bed and gaze at the pattern of light and shadow that falls on our curtain. Street lamp light streaks through leaves and branches to form a lion’s head one night, witches face the next.

If the wind allows the lion might have a shaking main or the witch looks as if she is speaking, as the gently waving branches animate the image.

I reflect on what it means, for me to see a chattering skull, or swimming turtle on the curtain. What kind of death anxiety or peaceful movement is expressed in this shadow play association game?

Last night, two masks were jumping across the fabric, and I fell asleep pondering why the cosmos have conspired to produce that image for my mind to create and consume. What message do you have for me, World? What forecast for my fortunes or fate can you reveal, Tree?

I thought of the tree outside our old flat in the Village, with its quaking leaves producing a sparkling appearance in the slightest breeze, and the gentle whisper that it emitted. How nice it was to see the tree reaching! To listen to it drinking wind!

I rose from bed and opened the curtain wide, “Take that cosmos, bet you didn’t see that coming!” I will peel away the shadowy masks and witness the mechanism of the illusion! I too will drink wind and reach!

And with undue zeal I threw open the pane to hear the night.

And I thought, “Cool, free Spanish music”

…And it was good.

Peace in,

Kleine
